SOPHIE
ROUSMANIERE – Producer/ Editor/ Writer / Director
Sophie Rousmaniere has worked as a filmmaker and freelance
journalist in the US, Canada, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Guatemala, Pakistan,
Laos, Vietnam and Thailand looking at issues that affect indigenous communities.
She has produced, edited and directed over twenty documentaries, short films
and music videos. She has recently finished a video project for the New Mexico
Department of Game and Fish, and is involved in projects with the International
Center for Foreign Journalism in Washington, DC and ¬Akasha Entertainment
in Santa Fe. She has been working on environmental issues on and around the
Navajo Nation since early 2007. She is working on Yellow Fever and a documentary
about ‘Sacred Space’. Sophie also juries and acts as filmmaker liason
for the Santa Fe Metaphysical Film Festival. Sophie’s work is largely
social issue based, having worked on topics from child prostitution in Thailand
to environmental issues in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. She is a professional
editor and an owner of Ironthorn Productions, a digital media company in
Santa Fe.
JAY MINTON – Producer/ Production Sound/ Composition
Jay Minton is a graduate of the University Missouri Kansas City with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology.He went on to train in production sound as an intern for Ironthorn Productions. He has worked on a myriad of film projects, including the original documentaries, Religious Aggression (covering the witch trials), Shiva-Ratri Festival, Smokin Bachi Taiko Drumming, and the mini series: Sacred Space "Searching for the source”. Jay has worked tirelessly on Yellow Fever over the last year.
MARCOS RAMIREZ – Camera Operator / Editor (Yellow Fever)
Marcos Ramirez is a camera operator, editor and independent
filmmaker. Recently he has worked as co-editor for the Cooper-Hewitt Design
Museum's City of Neighborhood's program for their promotional video about their
New Orleans project. In addition to editing for television news at KOB TV he
has produced numerous documentary films for organizations in both Central America
and the United States. Recently Marcos has produced short reports for New Mexico's
PBS station, KNME, on topics that range from the state of veterans affairs in
New Mexico focusing on the NM Veterans Integration Center to New Mexico health
insurance coverage issues. Marcos is a founding and active member of the New
Mexico Independent Media Center aka Indymedia. He is also an active board member
and organizer for the New Mexico based non-profit organization Available Media
Inc. who are currently working on the development of two new FCC licensed community
FM radio stations in northern New Mexico.
MAGGIE GEORGE – Lead Researcher (Yellow Fever)
Maggie George is a trained researcher, a fluent speaker of
the Navajo language, and is connected to her tribal community. She has served
as liaison to tribes and tribal organizations, collaborated with other university
departments to improve support for American Indians in her work with schools.
At Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS she taught multicultural
education, educational psychology, educational technology, selected methods
courses, seminars, and introductory courses for pre-service teacher education
students from diverse tribal and ethnic backgrounds. Maggie co-chaired an annual
conference on American Indian education, and served as Chief Academic Officer
of the Navajo Nation’s tribal college, and has worked extensively in other
areas of Native American Education and research.
TINA GARNANEZ - Writer / Producer (Yellow Fever)
Tina Garnanez Tina grew up in Farmington and in Oaksprings
on the Navajo Nation. She was recruited into the military right out of high
school where she spent time as a medic in Iraq Upon her release she started
advocating for peace and veterans issues, while speaking out against the war.
Her family lives near key uranium mining sites and has been greatly affected
by the loss of her grandpa Willis who was a miner in the 50s. Tina has traveled
on the Southern Route of the Bring Them Home Now Tour, spoke at a Global Exchange
event, an ACLU event, and has been extensively interview on various radio programs
throughout the country. She is currently working on book with Brown University,
Helle Toft Jensen's Wounded Warrior Film, speaking at high schools in Santa
Fe with the Veterans for Peace Full Disclosure project and is currently attending
the American Indian Institute of the Arts.
VALENTINA GONZALES – PRODUCER/ GRAPHIC DESIGN (Burn TV)
Valentina Gonzalez has worked with Warehouse 21’s youth
program for 10 years helping to develop projects and initiatives to help young
artists from Santa Fe have experiences that make a difference. Warehouse 21
encourages youth to use their creative voices and artistic talent to express
their perceptions of art and culture. Whether she is teaching silk screening
in her Warehouse21 workshop classes, organizing concerts with local bands, designing
youth art magazines, she is plugged into the New Mexico youth community in a
myriad of ways.
CRISTIANO MENDES - Producer/Advisor (Burn TV)
Cristiano Mendes began his professional experience in Television
began in 1985. He worked as a producer of an outdoor sports and journalism program
at Bandeirantes TV Station in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 1988 he was invited to work
at Cultura de Sao Paulo Channel (PBS), where he had an opportunity to create,
edit and assist the director of Journalism with entertainment shows such as
musicals, documentaries, etc. All of these programs are very successful Brazilian
television shows to this day. Following his work with PBS, he worked for Globo
TV in New York and has since worked as a Director of several entertainment TV
shows for Fundacao Roberto Marinho, Rede TV, Canal Futura, TV.
RANDALL HEAVELLIN - Post Production Sound Supervisorfont>
Randall Heavellin is a professor of Music at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. He received a BA in Music from Berklee College of Music, in addition to a degree in business management. He has been working with us on the development of creative soundtracks for the film since we began shooting in 2008.
DANIELLE BLOCH – Production Intern
Danielle Bloch is an aspiring TV reporter. She is currently
also working at KOB-TV as an in-studio camera and teleprompter opt for over
2 years. She is working as an assistant editor, researcher PA and Transcriber
with Ironthorn.
AMY SHEHI – Post Production Intern
Amy Shehi graduated from the University of Kansas with a BA in English and a MA in Film Studies. She worked in the publishing field as a multimedia producer creating electronic educational materials including videos. She was a board member for KDHX, a community radio and media station in St. Louis, Missouri, in addition to volunteering on various media projects. Shortly after relocating to New Mexico, she started an internship with Ironthorn productions and worked on the "Smokin' Bachi Taiko Drumming" media short.
